Internship Opportunities

The Office of The State Attorney accepts high school, college, and law school students for internship opportunities.

High school and college students are offered a flexible schedule that conforms to your school attendance requirements and credit requirements to suit your internship opportunities.

High school and college students will work closely with an Assistant State Attorney to be exposed to the work of our office and observe courtroom proceedings and trials.

Law school students are accepted for internship opportunities. Law students will work closely with an Assistant State Attorney and be given meaningful legal work to better understand the rule of the prosecutor both in the office and in the courtroom.

Law students who have taken the appropriate law school classes and are certified by the Florida Supreme Court to serve as a Certified Legal Intern will also be able to work alongside an Assistant State Attorney in the office and in the courtroom. Under supervision, a certified legal intern is able to present hearings and conduct trials in court, gaining meaningful courtroom experience.

Internship opportunities are considered on a continuing basis. Students seeking an internship are encouraged to apply with us and consult with your school advisor in order to determine eligibility and/or credit requirements, if any. School advisors may call our Human Resources Department at (941) 861-4436 for additional information.

Law students that have graduated from an accredited law school but have not yet sat for the Florida Bar exam, or awaiting results, may be accepted under the Law School Practice Program. Those participants in the Law School Practice Program will work closely with an Assistant State Attorney and, while under supervision are able to practice hearings and conduct trials in court, gaining a meaningful courtroom experience.

Law students from an accredited law school may also be eligible for employment as a future Assistant State Attorney while awaiting to take the Florida Bar exam or are awaiting bar results.
