Ed Brodsky began his legal career in 1992 and is a career long prosecutor, having served the State Attorney’s office for 32 years. After completing rotations in the misdemeanor, juvenile, and felony divisions, Mr. Brodsky served in the child sex crimes unit prosecuting offenders who preyed on children under 12. He then served as a Felony Division Chief, then as Chief Assistant over Manatee County and then Chief Assistant over all 3 counties in the 12th circuit. Ed became State Attorney and was sworn into office in January 2013 and is currently in his third term as State Attorney. Ed serves on the State Advisory Group (SAG) to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency after his appointment by then governor Rick Scott, and his reappointment under Governor Ron DeSantis. He is a board member and the immediate past President of the Florida Prosecuting Attorney’s Association (FPAA). He serves as the State Director for Florida with the National District Attorney’s Association (NDAA). Ed serves on NDAA’S committees on training and education and their membership committee. Ed serves on the Florida Supreme Court steering committee on problem-solving courts and serves on its juvenile drug court best practices subcommittee.
He is a member of Manatee County’s Public Safety Coordinating Council and Sarasota County’s Criminal Justice Commission. He also serves as an adjunct professor for the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and Tampa campuses. Ed along with his team of prosecutors also provides the legal instruction for both the Sarasota and Manatee law enforcement academies. Ed obtained his undergraduate degree in Criminology from the University of South Florida and his law degree from Nova University law school in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Ed is married to his wife Kim, and they have 2 children. Ed’s son Evan works in finance for Sam’s Club and Walmart in Bentonville, Arkansas, and his daughter, Alexa, is attending law school at the University of Alabama.
